The Agra metro is considered a rapid transit system that serves the city of Agra Uttar Pradesh. The Agra metro currently consists of 6 active stations. The Sikandra Taj East Gate corridor stretches for 14.5 km which connects landmarks such as the Taj Mahal, Sikandra, and Agra Fort. The corridors of Sikandra cut through the city which provides convenient access to major tourist attractions before moving to the East Gate of the Taj Mahal.
The Agra metro project consists of two corridors that pass through the city center and it will connect ISBT, Agra Cantonment Railway Station, Medical College, Sanjay Place, and surrounding residential and commercial areas. According to the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation, the elevated section of the metro was completed in 29 months while the underground section was completed in 23 months of phase – 1.
Line 2 of the Agra metro will be 15.4 km long which will cover between Agra Cantonment and Kalindi Vihar all stations will be elevated and line 2 will consist of 15 metro stations.
On the walls of the underground metro of Agra, there are handmade floral and calligraphic artwork done which shows the beauty of the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. The metro station has provided seating arrangements and spacious space for the convenience of passengers.

At the Agra metro station if the staff members notice that a person waits for more than 20 minutes then he or she will be warned. The metro station will be monitored by AI detectors. At present, this metro will run between 6 stations.

Interesting Facts about Agra Metro
- Agra\'s metro trains will have the feature of regenerative braking, with the help of which up to 35 percent of the energy generated through the brakes applied in the trains will be regenerated and used again in the system.
- State-of-the-art propulsion system will also be present in these trains to reduce air pollution.
- These trains will have carbon-dioxide sensor based air-conditioning system, which will operate according to the number of passengers present in the train and save energy.
- Keeping in view the automatic train operation, these trains will run with communication based train control system.
- The passenger capacity of the Agra Metro train will be 974 people.
- The design speed of these trains will be up to 90 km/hr and the operational speed will be up to 80 km/hr.
- There will be separate space for wheelchairs in the first and last coach of the train.
- There will be a 'Long Stop Request Button' near the wheelchair location, by pressing which PwD can inform the train operator to keep the door open for longer time.
- Fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and CCTV cameras etc. will be installed in the trains.
- Agra Metro trains will get power from third rail i.e. the third rail running parallel to the tracks, hence there will be no need for setup of poles and wires.
- Each train will have 24 CCTV cameras, whose video feed will directly reach the train operator and the central security room at the depot.
- In this train, by pressing the talk back button, passengers can talk to the train operator in case of emergency. The location of the passenger and the CCTV footage will be displayed directly on the monitor near the train operator.
The Agra Metro was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. The route from where the Agra Metro starts is Taj East Metro Station to Mankameshwar Metro Station which exists on the Yellow Metro Line and includes a total of 6 metro stations.
Agra Metro of Uttar Pradesh's total length is 29.65 km which exists on Phase – 1 out of which only 6 km metro has been inaugurated at the present time. There are approximately 21 stations which are currently under construction.
The Detailed Project Report (DRP) for Phase – 1 of Agra Metro was prepared by RITES and it was officially submitted to the state government of Uttar Pradesh on 30th June 2016 for approval.
The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRCL) was appointed as the coordinate body in 2017, in an effort to facilitate the launch of the metro project. The total cost of the metro project was Rs. 8,379 crore.
The project for the construction of the metro was approved by the central government in February 2019 and in July 2020 the Supreme Court gave permission for the construction of Agra Metro but they kept 11 specified strict conditions to the UPMRCL.
On 7th December 2020, the construction started on the first stretch of 4 km for phase – 1 specifically for the Taj East Gate to the Taj Mahal ramp. Therefore the entire work for the construction of Agra Metro Phase – 1 will be completed by 2026.
