About Rapid Metro

Rapid Metro is one of the fastest metro lines, serving Gurgaon and the cities in Gurgaon. Rapid Metro began its operation on 14 November 2013. People use this transportation system to visit their workplaces or to explore the cities in Gurgaon. It was constructed by Rapid Metro Gurgaon Limited, also known as (RMGL). This system was the first fully privately financed advanced light Metro. In the beginning, it was planned to open in 2012, but the first phase system was launched in 2013. After this the second phase starts its commercial operation on 31 March in the year 2017.

In September 2019, the IL&FS group gave a notification that it did not have the resources to keep running Rapid Metro because of some financial problems with the organization. They were looking for new authority to donate and cease the revenue reserve. After a short argument with the Haryana government and a court judgment from the Haryana and Punjab high court, The Delhi Metro took over the running operational line from IL&FS. Rapid Metro serves 11 stations with a total length of 12.85 kilometers. This metro system is fully dignified by utilizing criterion scale tracks.

In this Metro, the power is supplied by 750 volts in direct current passing the third rail. The Rapid Metro operates daily from 6:05 AM to 10:00 PM and runs with a headway of every four minutes. This Metro was the first in India to auction naming rights for their stations. The Rapid Metro project was executed as a public-private partnership. All the project costs were paid for by a private party. The private party also starts off with the operation and maintenance of the Metro at its own cost.
