Nagpur is known to be a Rapid transit system that serves the city of Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. This metro station has 37 active stations. The main operator of the Nagpur metro is Nagpur Metro Rail (NMR). The main aim of Nagpur Metro is to reduce the congestion on roads which will help to reduce pollution, reliable and timely transportation at affordable and cheap cost, and provide comfort to the passengers. The Nagpur metro has currently 2 active lines which are the Orange Line and the Aqua Line. 

The Nagpur metro rail project consists of an approximately 38.215 km metro corridor, 2 Depots, and 38 stations. The North-South corridor will consist of about 18 stations and the East-West corridor will consist of about 20 stations. The Nagpur metro is also providing 19 Feeder routes which will cover all stations to provide first and last-mile connectivity. The Feeder service will include shuttle buses, bicycles, pedestrian facilities, and operated vehicles. 

The Nagpur metro has an automatic fare collection system with both smart cards and computerized paper tickets which are placed at every station. The metro service in Nagpur starts at 05:00 AM and ends at 12:00 AM. Maha Metro has taken basic PD facilities so that the overall city infrastructure can be uplifted and promoted. It will be only beneficial for the metro commuters by providing a stop solution to its requirements. These initiatives can also lead to generating non–fare box revenue for Maha–Metro.

  • On 20 August 2014, Union Cabinet gave approval for the development of project, and PM Narendra Modi laid foundation stone on 21 August on his visit to the city.

The Nagpur metro project was conceived in the year 2012, at that time the population of Nagpur city was more than 20 lakh. So on 22nd February, the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) signed an agreement with DMRC for the construction of the Nagpur metro. 

In November 2013, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) detailed project report final version was submitted. After that in November 2014, the union cabinet approved the Nagpur metro project. One year later in November 2015, the construction work started on the orange line of the North-South corridor, And in September 2017, the first trail run was conducted on a 5.6 km section which was located between the MIHAN area and Khapri station. 

In February 2019, The Prime Minister of India was expected to inaugurate the 12.5 km (7.8 mi) long phase – 1 section which starts from Sitabuldi to Khapri in the first week of March 2019. Eventually, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi inaugurated the 13 km (8.1 mi) long Sitabuldi to Khapri section on 8th March 2019. 

After that In August 2021, the chief minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray inaugurated a 1.6 km expansion of the metro between Sitabuldi and Kasturchand Park. 

However, on 11th December 2022, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi inaugurated the rest of the section of the Orange Line of Nagpur Phase 1 for the benefit of the people.

Then you need to tap the metro card or get a QR ticket from the Ticket Counter at the entry gate, then go to the platform to board your metro train.
