Pune Metro is considered as an urban mass rapid transit system (MRTS) which contains 3 under-construction lines in the city of Pune Maharashtra. Phase 1 project of the Pune metro consists of 31.254 km, 2 metro lines, and 29 stations in a detailed project report which was prepared and submitted by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in July 2009 and revised in January 2013, August 2014 and November 2015 for viewing the prices of the metro. 

Pune metro is known to be one of the safest, most reliable, and affordable modes of transportation system. Maha Metro is responsible for the smooth operation and execution of phase – 1 of the Pune metro rail project. The main purpose of constructing the Pune metro is to reduce air pollution, traffic, road accidents, travel costs, travel time, and congestion. 

The state government approved the project in 2012, but it mainly ran into red tape, politics, and opposition from local NGOs and activists over its mostly elevated nature. On 7th December 2016, the project received final approval from the Union government cabinet.

Even though the Pune metropolitan region development authority is constructing a 3rd line which will be mostly elevated and connect Hinjewadi – Civil Court on the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The Detailed Project for Pune metro phase – 2 has not been prepared at the present time but it is expected to get new corridors and extensions of the present metro line to Kharadi, Hadaspar, Katraj, Loni Kalbhor, Katraj Khadakwasla, Warje, Chandni Chowk in Pune metro. 

The purple line of Pune metro runs from PCMC Bhavan to Swargate which is 16.59 km in distance and the Aqua line of Pune metro runs from Vanaz to Ramwadi and covers a total distance of 14.66 km. A total of 3 lines out of which 2 lines have approximately 30 metro stations which are being operated by MahaMetro and 1 line which will have 23 stations will be operated by PMRDA. The yellow line which is 23.33 km will run from the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi via Balewadi to Civil Court.

MiCard (Marathi: मी कार्ड), the smart card currently being used on the bus and BRTS services run by the PMPML, will be used as the common mobility card on the metro services as well as parking facilities.

Pune Metro QR Metro Ticket service on WhatsApp
  • Go to Ticket Office Machine and Add information destination, ticket type & ticket count
  • After that Choose your Payment method like Paper Ticket or WhatsApp ticket type
  • After that scans the QR for the WhatsApp ticket
  • Once the message is sent, an OTP is sent on the chat- Hi, your counter booking OTP is 1234”
  • The OTP has to be told to the operator on the counter.
  • Once the OTP is accepted/ validated in AFC system , the passanger will receive the URL on WhatsApp
  • After that traveller can click on URL and the QR code ticket will appear.
  • After successfully completing their payment, they will be able to download a QR E-ticket (valid for one business day).

  • The Pune Metro is a mass rapid transit system serving the city of Pune, India. The system consists of 3 lines with a total length of 54.58 km.
  • The 16.59-km purple line runs from PCMC Bhavan to Swargate, the aqua line runs from Vanaz to Ramwadi covering a distance of 14.66 km.
  • The 23.33-km yellow line will run from the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi via Balewadi to Civil Court.
  • All three lines will align at the Civil Court interchange station.
  • The foundation stone (December 2016) and inauguration of operations (March 2022) for the purple and aqua line was laid by the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi.
  • Each train will have 3 coaches, and will run at the speed of 33 km/h with the frequency of 30 min.

  • An integrated fare system has also been planned to facilitate seamless transfer, however, exact fares for the same travel distance will vary based on the operator between Rs.10 - Rs.50.

Pune Metro is known as a mass rapid transit system serving the city of Pune, India. On 15th August 2008, the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) was initiated by the DMRC and submitted its report. 

In June 2012 the first project which consisted of two lines was approved by the state and almost 4.5 years later Pune Metro received the final approval of the Central Government on 7 December 2016. 

There is Maha metro which is expected to complete the project in 2021. Finally, the Pune metro purple line (7 km) and Aqua line (5 km) became operational in March 2022. 

Currently, the Pune metro network serves the city of Pune in Maharashtra, India with approximately 26 active stations, and it has 3 lines with a total length of 54.58 km.

Pune Metro FAQs

𝒜. The Pune metro photography is the metro premises which is allowed for self-use only and permitted in public areas. The commuters cannot take photos or videos of security points, safety installations, station control, and other equipment rooms. The MahaMetro can only be permitted to take photos and videos if it is used for social media and news items in the print media.

𝒜. The commuters are only allowed to carry 25 kg of baggage as per the rules notified by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). Therefore passengers are not allowed to carry luggage in the form of bundles at the Pune metro station.

𝒜. Sharp objects like knives, firearms, e-cigarettes, matches, lighters, Alcohol, cigarettes, or any flammable things like diesel and petrol are not allowed to be carried on the Pune metro station.

𝒜. Animals like dogs, cats, and birds are strictly not permitted to be carried on Maha Metro property.

𝒜. The commuters are allowed to complete their journey within 90 minutes from the time when they buy the ticket to reach their final destination. If they fail to adhere to this timeframe then they need to pay penalty charges which range from Rs. 10 to Rs. 50 per hour.
