Pune Ring Road: Construction Details and Cost
The Pune Ring Road will be created as a six-lane express highway. Vehicles at the maximum speed of 120 km per hour can run on the road. The Maharashtra government approved a budget of Rs 26,831 crores for the construction of Ring Road in Pune.
The state PWD (Public Works Department) issues a resolution approving all four packages comprising the long-awaited development of the Outer Ring Road. Public Private Partnership is responsible for developing the Ring Road project and PMRDA is accountable for preparing DPR for the inner part of the Pune Ring Road.
- The first package of the mega-project consists of the construction of 29.8 km extending from Solu to Soratwardi on the Pune-Solapur Road. this package costs Rs 3,523 crores.
- The second package which costs around Rs 4,495 crores consists of the development of a 36.73-km road from Soratwadi to Valve.
- The third part of the Pune Ring Road project will involve the construction of 38.34 km from Urse to Solu on Aland-Markal Road.
- The fourth package will cover the development of 68.8 km of road.

Pune Ring Road: Timeline Updates
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is in charge of handling the 173 km ring road project. It was originally scheduled to be finished by March 2025, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the work has slowed down. To compensate the farmers for the construction of the ring road, the MSRDC started awarding them. A farmer from Urse was the first to receive compensation of Rs 5.65 crore for a 2.05-acre plot of land. As per the Pune Ring Road’s current status, it is anticipated that the construction of the Ring Road will be completed by the end of December 2026.
Pune Ring Road: Land Acquisition
The Pune district administration was directed to complete the land acquisition for the 173 km ring road before September 2023. Across 87 villages, a total of 1,900 hectares will be acquired for the project. For all 8 villages, the compensation amount will be declared.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced a budget allocation of Rs 250 crore on August 23, 2022, for the land acquisition of the Pune Ring Road. The state government had planned to spend Rs 1,500 crore for the project in FY 2022-23, of which Rs 250 has been allotted for land acquisition. Six talukas across 83 villages of the Pune district would have their land acquired.
In August 2021, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) initiated a joint measurement survey (JMS) for the eastern part of the Ring Road, as the land measurement of the western part is nearly completed. The valuation of the compensation process also began for both the western and eastern parts. A total of Rs 2,348.92 crore will be paid to the owners for acquiring the land.
Pune Ring Road Development Phases

According to the project developed for the construction of the Ring Road, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will build 14 multi-level interchanges and eight major bridges, this will help in easing traffic on the road. Besides, it will have 18 viaducts, 17 tunnels, and four roadways over bridges.
The Pune Ring Road will be constructed in four phases, the total estimated cost is Rs 26,000 crores. The central government will bear 3/4 of the estimated cost under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, a centrally-sponsored and funded road and highways project of the government of India.
The remaining amount will be managed through town planning schemes and other means, which will be implemented from Wagholi to Vadichiwadi and from Vadichiwadi to Katraj.
